Beautiful blossoms in the rain
Jan. 26th, 2010 03:38 pmThis is the parking lot outside my office. I need to put batteries in my good camera and take better pictures tomorrow. The tree is covered with these white blossoms.

In other news, someone bought me Bill Clinton's autobiography My Life for Christmas, and I sarted reading it this morning. It's really good. I'm really enjoying it, and the best part is that as I read it, I can hear him in my head speaking everything in his luscious voice and it makes me even happier. I love Bill.

Writer's Block: Book review
Nov. 18th, 2009 09:14 am[Error: unknown template qotd]
I wouldn't ban any books from anywhere. I read some weird shit when I was a teenager (hahaha maybe that's what happened) and I'm glad I got the chance to learn about all sorts of concepts (like lesbianism, drugs, slavery, poverty to name a few) and figure out what they all meant. People today are ignorant fools who don't read. It's horrible.

Dominick Dunne is dead.
Aug. 27th, 2009 06:16 amThis is very sad. He was one of my favorite authors and gossip columnists. His coverage of the OJ Simpson trial was absolutely amazing (I have all of the original Vanity Fairs with the OJ column in each one). I loved his novels. He went through the death of 2 of his children in horrible circumstances and still managed to keep his wit and sense of humor.
RIP my dear. You will be missed.

Fall Classes!
May. 13th, 2009 09:40 pmWe got our course list and book list for the fall term! Contracts, Criminal Law, Torts and Legal Analysis. So far I have these books listed as required:
Criminal Law books:
Casebook - Criminal Law & Procedure by Boyce, Dripps & Perkins
Criminal Law - Quick Review - Sum & Substance by Steven Friedland
Aspen's Case notes/legal briefs for Criminal Law
Contracts books:
Casebook - Contracts by Farnsworth, Young & Sanger
Contracts - Quick Review - Sum & Substance by Robert Brain
Casenote's case notes/legal briefs for Contracts
Torts books:
Casebook - Torts by Prosser, Kelly, Wade & Schwartz
Torts - Quick Review - Sum & Substance by Larry Levine
Prosser & Keeton's case notes/legal briefs for Torts
These books cost me $611.55 tonight. I told Mom & Dad that if they paid for tuition for this first year, I'd pay for the books. Thankfully, these books are for the entire year. But it's still a sizable chunk of change.
So Starting August 24th, I'll be in Criminal Law (interspersed with Legal Analysis) on Monday nights (through December 7th), Tuesday nights will be Contracts, and Thursday nights will be Torts (last class December 10th).
Class tonight was a blast! I love my teacher so much. The banter between us students is great too. I'm so happy.

Since the LSAT will be DONE after Saturday and I don't start law school until Fall, I'll have more reading time! So I bought some books, which arrived today! I love books so much. I bought:
My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands by Chelsea Handler
Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife by Mary Roach
The Divine Comedy (The Inferno, The Purgatorio, and The Paradiso) by Dante Alighieri
Woohoo! I'm all a twitter. I've already read 50 pages of the One Night Stand book. It's quite funny. [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] or [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] do either of you want it when I'm done? I think both of you will enjoy it.

I am currently reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard, which you Potter fans know is the collection of wizard's fairy tales as talked about in The Deathly Hallows.
I am quite enjoying it, especially the commentary by Albus Dumbledore, and I have to say that there is a scene in The Warlock's Hairy Heart which is deliciously disturbing.
I hope she keeps writing little gems like these. They are a lot of fun and help with the Potter withdrawals.

I just finished reading Escape by Carolyn Jessop.

She was one of 14 women married to a man of high rank in the FLDS cult led by Warren Jeffs and the same group that has been in the news lately.
This book was horrifying.
So if any of you think that the government was wrong in taking these children away (as I actually did until a few hours ago), read this book.

J.K. Rowling outs Hogwarts character
By HILLEL ITALIE, AP National Writer
"Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay. J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall.
After reading briefly from the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," she took questions from audience members.
She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love."
"Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause.
She then explained that Dumbledore was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, whom he defeated long ago in a battle between good and bad wizards. "Falling in love can blind us to an extent," Rowling said of Dumbledore's feelings, adding that Dumbledore was "horribly, terribly let down."
Dumbledore's love, she observed, was his "great tragedy."
"Oh, my god," Rowling concluded with a laugh, "the fan fiction."
Potter readers on fan sites and elsewhere on the Internet have speculated on the sexuality of Dumbledore, noting that he has no close relationship with women and a mysterious, troubled past. And explicit scenes with Dumbledore already have appeared in fan fiction.
Rowling told the audience that while working on the planned sixth Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," she spotted a reference in the script to a girl who once was of interest to Dumbledore. A note was duly passed to director David Yates, revealing the truth about her character.
Rowling, finishing a brief "Open Book Tour" of the United States, her first tour here since 2000, also said that she regarded her Potter books as a "prolonged argument for tolerance" and urged her fans to "question authority."
Not everyone likes her work, Rowling said, likely referring to Christian groups that have alleged the books promote witchcraft. Her news about Dumbledore, she said, will give them one more reason."
I'm still not sure what I think.

but couldn't finish, and strike through what you couldn't stand. Add an
asterisk to those you've read more than once. Underline those on your to-read

This makes me laugh.
On to things that don't make me laugh, someone on wtf_inc (or was it bad_porn_2? I can't remember) had an icon on their post which had a very nasty thing which was either a spoiler for Deathly Hallows or a joke. I'm going to be pissed if it was real. So, be warned. I swear I almost want to turn off my internet until I finish the book in 6 days.
