WD-50!
Here's my gastronomical adventure tonight.
Let's start off with the complimentary amuse bouche (I will try my best to remember what was in everything) of fried frog's legs with a pomegranate reduction with some sort of fruit balls that were sort of like caviar with kelp pieces on top. It was weird, I won't deny it, and it was the first time I had tried frog's legs, but it was interesting:

( and away we go! )
The dinner itself was very interesting, and the flavor combinations were totally mind blowing. While some of the things tasted very strange to me, I really appreciated the depths of flavor and the artistry and I was really glad I went there. How many times can you say you've had food like that? And like I said in my last post, Wylie Dufresne was so sweet and nerdy and cute and I told him how much I loved Top Chef and he said "Next time I'll try to do better" (in the current series "Top Chef Masters" he sort of flamed out in the first round, but I really appreciated his efforts) and I told him I thought he did well, and that he probably already knew who won (he winked at me and said "For $20 I'll tell you." and I laughed and said I didn't want to be spoiled...oh my god he is so cute) but I always love him on the show when he's a judge or a competitor.
So I had a blast. Then I went to Times Square - OMG it is insanity on a scale I have never witnessed before. It was really cool.
Ok, I have to go to bed. I'm exhausted. And tomorrow I'm getting together with
msginnyo and I'm really excited!

I can't get the stupid LJ Text feature to register my new phone number with the text posting, so if I can't get that to work by the time I leave my house at 3am to drive to LA, then I'll just be able to post with voice posts.
I'm going to have so much fun! I'll take lots of pictures and and bore you all with them when I get back!
You kids be good while I'm gone!

Getting excited...
Jun. 22nd, 2009 10:59 amMy trip is in 17 days! Woohoo! I can't wait to see Independence Hall, or the Mutter or MOMA. I'm so excited for those of you I'll be meeting (remember hyenas, plan for Philly on Friday night 07/10/09 for our get together)! I can't wait.
I'm really looking forward to going to the top of the Empire State Building. It is the tallest building in NYC again, you know.
My new Skechers I bought are really comfy - I wore them all day yesterday so I could break them in, but they were perfect. They don't need breaking in at all.

I am going to be limited to VERY little luggage - I won't have time to go find each hotel early in the day to leave things there before going out and about, I'm going to have to backpack like I did in 1996. So I really have to pare things down so it's manageable. It will be a challenge, but it'll be sort of like Tetris so it'll be fun.
And last but not least, I leave you with this gem I saw at the grocery store yesterday:

I went and had lunch with
kittylitter1 at Brummi's, the local German restaurant we went to a couple of months ago. It was nice to see her again.
We started with the soup of the day, which was a sour clear soup with vinegar and shredded beef and pickled vegetables. It was really good:

Then I had the bockwurst with sauerkraut, but I didn't want potato salad so I asked if I could have the egg noodles from today's goulash special, and she said yes, but (you have to imagine the woman with the thick German accent) "Only if you have ze gravy on ze noodles! Ze MUST have ze gravy!" So I had the gravy on the noodles...it was actually sort of like having a mini-goulash on my plate. Everything was quite tasty:

And of course we couldn't resist the apple fritters:

And I really enjoyed having lunch with
kittylitter1! I love talking to her because we're very similar yet so different. It's fun. :)

Dear Friends -
Please take just a moment to click here and cast a vote for my friend Brandy's mom. She's a wonderful lady who has faced some heart-wrenching challenges over her lifetime, and we're trying to win her a well-deserved trip to NYC for Mother's Day.
It'll take less than 30 seconds to lend a hand, won't cost you a penny, and won't land you on a mailing list.
I deeply appreciate your help. Thank you!
P.S. Bonus appreciation/admiration points if you'd repost this request in your journal. The contest ends in two days.

Writer's Block: Celebrating Friendships

That would be
philosophyjeff. I believe we met in 1990 when he was a freshman in high school and I was a sophomore. We ran in the same group of friends for a few years, and we grew up one block from each other. Our houses were even the same exact floor plan, but reversed (it was like Bizarro Home when I went to his house). We drifted apart after high school and found each other here 2 years ago.
That would be
