palsgraf_polka: (Prius)
So I was driving home and my check oil light came on. So I stopped at the local auto parts store and checked my oil level. Almost gone. This is the second time this has happened, and there have been no dripping oil spots under my car, so I must be slowly burning oil. The engine has 150,000 miles on it, so it's not too much of a shock. But it is a Prius. When I get back from Chicago I'll have Toyota check it out.

Anyway, so I am at the auto parts store, and I'm standing next to my car waiting for the first quart to sink down so I can check the oil level. This man pulls up in a minivan and starts to go in the store, but then he sees me standing there waiting, and he comes over to me. He looks sort of like Fez from That 70s Show and he says,

"Are you ok? Is something wrong with your car?"

I replied that yes, it was low on oil and I'm slowly adding some.

"Do you need any help with anything? Can I help you?"

I replied, no, I think I have it under control.

"Oh, ok....WOW! You're really on the ball! Are you sure you don't need my help?"

I smiled and said I'm cool. He finally went inside.

Yes, I need help because of course I'm a helpless woman who just stares at her engine wondering how these little metal things work.

Geesh.

He was nice enough, but seriously, a woman alone at the auto parts store just brings out the Tim Allen in men.

Anyway, I'm going to check my oil every Monday from now on. I'll keep a quart in my car.

My day.

I thought after the trauma of this morning's fire, I should post some happier pics. I spent the day at Mom & Dad's watching football, eating good food and hanging out with family. It was nice.

Let the happy goldfinch butts welcome you in!

clicky for the wonderfully mundane )

You know, I saw fire images on TV several times today and each time they gave me a shudder and my heart would race. I'm really sick of fires. It was so fucking scary this morning being woken up with the noise and peeping through my blinds and seeing a wall of fire right outside the window. I really need to go away from this obnoxious and really dangerous arsonist. Quit picking on our alley!

The first 3 pictures are with my good camera, but then the batteries died and I had to revert to my phone.

Here is what I saw when I first got out there:

My power is out so I have to post by phone. 30 minutes ago I snapped awake at yelling and crackling noises and my room was glowing orange. I looked out the blinds and the carport of Ted Bundy Jr's house was totally engulfed in flame. I called 911 and ran outside. The fire was feet from my bedroom roof. I got some great pictures but the flames burned the power cable above it so we lost all power. Fire is out now so I have to wait for dawn to get my laundry and go to Mom and Dad's at sunrise. Keep you posted!

It has been really windy today.

Also, last night when I stopped to get a burrito, next door is the ciagrette store, which actually has not one but two cigar store Indians out front. Here's the fierce one.

It's so cold in my apartment right now that I can see my breath.

But I just made a cup of hot coffee with Bailey's in it.

Mmmmm.....warm.
