When I lived in London in 1996 I think I went about a week without internet access (I used to go to cyber cafes). I think that might be the longest I have gone without the internet since I got online in 1994. I might have gone 8 or 9 days while I was backpacking in Belgium, Holland, France and Spain. But definitely it is during that trip where I had the least amount of internet access.

I would charter a jet, and go to:

1) Napa, CA and eat at The French Laundry for dinner.
2) Fly to Tokyo and spend a night wandering the streets of the city, eating ramen & yakitori, taking in sights, singing some karaoke.
3) Fly to Bejing and go to The Forbidden City, and eat weird street food.
4) Fly to Rome and go to The Vatican to see the Sistene Chapel and eat dinner at La Pergola.
5) Fly to Paris, visit the Musee D'Orsay, get some amazing cheese somewhere and get some amazing pastry somewhere and go to L'Ambroisie for dinner.
6) Fly to London, see a weird play, go to the British Museum and go to Simpson's Tavern for dinner.
7) Fly to Las Vegas gamble in the high stakes room at The Wynn and then go eat at Burger Bar.
8) Fly back home to LA.

You are all welcome to join me.

Ok! I am booked and ready to go to CHICAGO! I will be staying June 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th and flying out on the afternoon of the 7th.

I am planning a get together on Saturday June 5th. [livejournal.com profile] jblaque, [livejournal.com profile] iron_chef_gein and [livejournal.com profile] ygrii_blop are already coming. I would hope that [livejournal.com profile] nurzrachet could be convinced to come as well. Anyone else in the area, please come! I'd love to meet you! Maybe [livejournal.com profile] toohipanna or [livejournal.com profile] deliverer or [livejournal.com profile] charon52 or [livejournal.com profile] nova_42 can make the drive.

And [livejournal.com profile] ygrii_blop please e-mail me or reply to my Facebook message because I need to work some details out with you.

I'm so excited! I'm going to go to the Art Institute, have some great food, meet some great friends and experience a new part of the country. I can't wait.

Definitely my trip to Philly and NYC. Without a doubt.

I forgot I shot this video! Other than his cello being woefully out of tune, it was nice. I gave him $1.

Be welcomed by NYC

Dinner!

WD-50!

Here's my gastronomical adventure tonight.

Let's start off with the complimentary amuse bouche (I will try my best to remember what was in everything) of fried frog's legs with a pomegranate reduction with some sort of fruit balls that were sort of like caviar with kelp pieces on top. It was weird, I won't deny it, and it was the first time I had tried frog's legs, but it was interesting:

and away we go! )

The dinner itself was very interesting, and the flavor combinations were totally mind blowing. While some of the things tasted very strange to me, I really appreciated the depths of flavor and the artistry and I was really glad I went there. How many times can you say you've had food like that? And like I said in my last post, Wylie Dufresne was so sweet and nerdy and cute and I told him how much I loved Top Chef and he said "Next time I'll try to do better" (in the current series "Top Chef Masters" he sort of flamed out in the first round, but I really appreciated his efforts) and I told him I thought he did well, and that he probably already knew who won (he winked at me and said "For $20 I'll tell you." and I laughed and said I didn't want to be spoiled...oh my god he is so cute) but I always love him on the show when he's a judge or a competitor.

So I had a blast. Then I went to Times Square - OMG it is insanity on a scale I have never witnessed before. It was really cool.

Ok, I have to go to bed. I'm exhausted. And tomorrow I'm getting together with [livejournal.com profile] msginnyo and I'm really excited!

I just finished dinner at WD 50 and it was weird and delicious and I took pictures of every dish to post later. Then they took me back and I met Wylie! He was humble and very nice and so damned cute I wish I could take him home. Now I am in a cab on my way to Times Square!

NYC!

I am in NEW YORK CITY!

I am sitting in the 30th street train station here in Philly waiting for them to open the track for my train to NYC! I am so excited! I had such a great time in Philly. This trip so far has been great. I will keep you posted later in the day (because I know you are all waiting with bated breath, LOL).

I am here!

My flight landed safely and I am on the shuttle to the hotel. I'm going to check in, shower and go have dinner at Dante & Luigi's!
palsgraf_polka: (Default)
I'm here at the airport! The lovely and generous [livejournal.com profile] lilredfh is babysitting my car and she just dropped me off at the airport! I thought the security would be longer and more intrusive but we just had to put our carry-on on the belt and our shoes in a crate on the belt and that was it! LOL the guy paused a bit on my bag because it had my phone, my camera, my iPod and my Nintendo DS in it, so it was chock full of electronics. But in the end he decided I was not a mad bomber. I'll update later!
palsgraf_polka: (Default)
So in 12 hours I will be boarding a plane to Philadelphia! I will be meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] cyberbertha and son, [livejournal.com profile] emt420 and possibly Hollister (from ye old AT days) in Philly, and then hopefully with [livejournal.com profile] msginnyo and [livejournal.com profile] a_newchapter4me in NYC!

I can't get the stupid LJ Text feature to register my new phone number with the text posting, so if I can't get that to work by the time I leave my house at 3am to drive to LA, then I'll just be able to post with voice posts.

I'm going to have so much fun! I'll take lots of pictures and and bore you all with them when I get back!

You kids be good while I'm gone!
palsgraf_polka: (Me - With Camera)
My trip is in 17 days! Woohoo! I can't wait to see Independence Hall, or the Mutter or MOMA. I'm so excited for those of you I'll be meeting (remember hyenas, plan for Philly on Friday night 07/10/09 for our get together)! I can't wait.

I'm really looking forward to going to the top of the Empire State Building. It is the tallest building in NYC again, you know.

My new Skechers I bought are really comfy - I wore them all day yesterday so I could break them in, but they were perfect. They don't need breaking in at all.

I am going to be limited to VERY little luggage - I won't have time to go find each hotel early in the day to leave things there before going out and about, I'm going to have to backpack like I did in 1996. So I really have to pare things down so it's manageable. It will be a challenge, but it'll be sort of like Tetris so it'll be fun.

And last but not least, I leave you with this gem I saw at the grocery store yesterday:

Baaaa.....

In 1996 I was traveling by train from Paris to Madrid and I shared a sleeping car all night long with this really cute Dutch boy named Martin and we spent the entire night talking about politics, history, Europe, America, you name it. It was amazing. Something you'd see in an indie film. I'll never forget.

Memage
