For some reason, this morning before work, I was Wikipedia'ing centipedes with the kids. And we found this:
Scolopendra gigantea, also known as the Amazonian giant centipede, is the largest existing species of centipede in the world, reaching over 30 cm (12 in) in length. It is known to eat bats, catching them in midflight, as well as rodents and spiders.
I know, I know. %-) Wikipedia is for quick&dirty "I wonder..." stuff. If it's for school, it needs more oomph.
But it reminded me of the difference between centipedes and millipedes, which I'd forgotten. (One pair of legs per segment vs. two.) And the "largest centipede eating bats" thing had a good reference.
