My day...

Oh my god I am so tired.

Today I went out to this place in Santa Barbara called Chubbies to get a burger for lunch. They are a fabulous hole in the wall with really greasy and fantastic burgers. But they also have:

Chicken Beast. I would love to see that.

They also attract random dirty hipsters:

So I went to go see Watchmen. I got there really early (I drove right from work) and I still had an hour to wait (I had bought my ticket on Wednesday from Fandango for the 7:40pm show) and the manager came out and took pity on me being all alone in the line waiting for 7:40 and let me in to the 7:00pm show. So that was cool.

This was a really bloody, violent and gory movie. And yet I counted about 5 children aged 5 and under with their parents, one being a little girl in the row right in front of me. 45 minutes in to the show, she got freaked and started crying and they had to leave. I swear, people are so stupid. And then there these two old women (I mean old...like 70s) sitting right behind me and they kept fucking talking! I mean seriously, what were they even doing there? They didn't get the movie at all and I had to tell them to shut the fuck up twice, and they finally did.

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. I think though, if you are not a fan of the comic book, it will seem over long and not make a whole lot of sense, even though the movie followed the comic nearly scene for scene (except for the Black Freighter stuff, but that's being released on March 24th in a separate DVD, which is really cool). As we were leaving, a lot of non-nerdy folk were complaining about how long and stupid it was, but all the nerds were cheering. So there you go. The actor who played Rorschach was fucking AMAZING (I think he's a child actor now old - I need to check IMDB) and I have to give Billy Crudup mad props for having the courage to spend 2/3 of his scenes in the movie completely naked with his cock hanging out.

Oh! And people are 12 and kept giggling through the cock scenes and the sex scenes. Some people even laughed at really inappropriate times and that bugs me. I hate stupid people.

So I actually have only one complaint about the movie itself: The music. The director was really heavy handed with the choice of pop music songs (including Ride of the Valkyries during this epic Vietnam War scene...I mean, come on...really?) and IMHO, it detracted from the movie. But other than that, I was really pleased. Carla Gugino was flawless as always and the guy who played Night Owl was really good too. So I enjoyed the film.

On my drive home, I took the back road that goes around the back of the AFB and then past the prison, and about 6 deer ran in front of my car in a herd, but at least I was only going 35 (for that very reason) and was able to stop in time, and I was the only person on the road that late. But I really dread the day I can't stop in time and I smash into one of those large beasts.

And last, but not least, I saw this church sign on the ride home tonight, and had to take a picture of it.

Goodnight everyone. I am exhausted. Oh, and I deleted the Harry Potter voice post because it was seriously lame.

Loving the icon. BTW It's Jackie Earle Haley who plays Rorschach. He was in a bunch of teen comedies, and also the original "Bad News Bears".

I'm taking my brother with me when I see it Sunday. He's been seeing the recent ads and wants to go. It should be an interesting crowd.

Yeah! I looked him up and thought maybe that's where I remember him from, because in the prison scenes you can see the child actor in his face...it's weird, but cool. He did such an excellent job. He really grasped Rorschach and why he was who he was and did what he did. I was impressed.

I never see big movies right when they come out, because of a lot of the things you mentioned: Too many dorks and dingbats.

This is the first review I've read of Watchmen. I take it you did read the graphic novel? There was some controversy about giant exploding squid not being included.

Chubbies is great name for a dive. Chicken beast!

What the H-E-double toothpicks is knee mail?

You know, I really hated the giant squid thing in the comic, and in the movie the overall concept was there, but they made it a lot cooler than the comic. I was ok with it.

I rarely see movies opening week either (for those same reasons), but sometimes you just have to.

I generally avoid movies on opening weekend because of stupid people. I like to go in the middle of the afternoon during the work week, if possible.

I want a Chicken Beast for lunch, dammit.

I like the knee mail sign. There are a bunch of "God is pro-choice" bumperstickers circulating around here. I want to print up some bumperstickers that say "God gave us free will, which makes him pro-choice".

Oh! I like the God is Pro-Choice concept. Cool.

You can't walk 10 feet in this town without tripping over a hipster. Of course, you'll trip over 3 hippies on the way there, but what can you do?

Gary and I plan on seeing Watchmen next week, after the crowds thin a bit. Blue glowing peen! Yah!

The way they did Dr. Manhattan, was for the most part, really cool. Cinematic technology has really come a long way.
