I completely understand. At my last job I worked with several secular Muslims (Persians who left Iran at the time the Shah was ousted and the Ayatollah came in to power), so I'm used to it.
But don't you worry about the extremism that is going on in Indonesia in general and within the government? I would worry about those kind of things. Then again, things are a little extreme here in the US right now.
I lived in London, UK for 6 months in 1996 in a school program. At the end of school I backpacked around Belgium, Holland, France and Spain. That was how I ended up in Amsterdam with my Dutch Indonesian tourguide that I had met on the internet. :)
