I took my father to see Cloverfield today because it was so much fun and I thought he'd really enjoy it (he loves monster movies) and it made him vomit! Right into his bucket of popcorn! He couldn't handle the shaky camera and we had to leave about 2/3 of the way through the film. I told him he shouldn't have refused my offer of Dramamine.

Oh well. I still feel bad for making my Dad barf.

Your dad has the same problem I have. I spent most of I Am Legend with my eyes closed so it wouldn't make me hurl. WTF is with this trend in movies, anyway? Are SteadiCams really that expensive?

it's not that Steadicams are expensive, what this is, is a method used by producers/directors to make a really cheap movie and pass it off as art and/or the next blockbuster. What it is, is horse-shit, a cop-out, a refusal to go the extra 1/10 of a mile just to make the film "watchable". yes there is a wiki for everything: shaky camera

I actually really like the way Cloverfield was shot. The effect is fabulous and really adds to the anxiety and fright. I have to disagree that it's all a copout. Some? Yes. But Cloverfield does it well. Also the Blair Witch Project.
