Lunch!

I went and had lunch with [livejournal.com profile] kittylitter1 at Brummi's, the local German restaurant we went to a couple of months ago. It was nice to see her again.

We started with the soup of the day, which was a sour clear soup with vinegar and shredded beef and pickled vegetables. It was really good:

Then I had the bockwurst with sauerkraut, but I didn't want potato salad so I asked if I could have the egg noodles from today's goulash special, and she said yes, but (you have to imagine the woman with the thick German accent) "Only if you have ze gravy on ze noodles! Ze MUST have ze gravy!" So I had the gravy on the noodles...it was actually sort of like having a mini-goulash on my plate. Everything was quite tasty:

And of course we couldn't resist the apple fritters:

And I really enjoyed having lunch with [livejournal.com profile] kittylitter1! I love talking to her because we're very similar yet so different. It's fun. :)

I am both relieved and deeply dismayed that the best German restaurant I've visited in many a year is at least two hours away from us. The sauerbraten dissolved on my fork and the strudel almost made me come. There is a decent place a little closer, in Indy, but I had a bad experience there last time. True, the wurst platter was excellent, but we saw Eddie Izard right after dinner and I spent the entire show worrying that I was going to power-barf every time I laughed.
