Shitting

Today I saw:

1) A cow in a pasture shitting on my way to work. There was fog so we were going very slowly, and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the steam both A) coming off the poo pile on the ground, and B) actually coming out of the cow's ass.

2) This very very old Golden Retriever taking a dump on the lawn of the church across the street. Every morning, this middle aged man walks this dog, and I think it's bordering on cruel. The dog is so old and can barely hobble around, yet every morning he has to walk with his master. Who knows. Maybe the dog begs to go out and still enjoys it. I just hate seeing it.

3) On the 101 freeway, about 20 miles on my way home from the office, I saw a hitchhiker leave his spot on the side of the road, go about 2 feet into the high grass, drop trou and start to crap. Lovely.

So, I had a shit filled day.

As for the old dog, you can bet that it's the highlight of his day, getting to go out for a walk with his person. He probably capers creakily around while the guy is getting his shoes on, getting the leash, and so on. In the dog's mind, he's still young and vibrant, and all those SMELLS!!!! Quite honestly, it would be crueler to not take him on his daily walkies.

We've adopted an elderly Lab, and she has a bad hind leg from being hit by a car as a pup. She limps along, but she loves her walks. She begs Mike for walks, and capers and hops around like a youngster when he gets her light up collar out. We had another old dog, he was literally 3 legged, and he loved his walks.

Instead of being upset over seeing his difficulty in getting around, think of how happy he most likely is, getting to go out and go about his routine with the One Person he loves most in the world....

Thank you Lorri, that makes me feel better.

You know, he might not know that there are things he can give his dog to help with the stiffness. We give Magic (the elderly Lab lady) a buffered aspirin rolled up in a slice of American cheese twice a day. It really helps her. You could arrange to be strolling along at walkies time, and suggest it, since you notice Ol' Roy seems to be a bit stiff this morning...

If it weren't for Magic's Cheese Balls I don't think she'd be able to move some days.

Wait...what?

Well, in Santa Barbara there are so many fucking dirty hippie hitchhikers that you have a tendency to see a lot of them on the beginning of their journey north to Santa Cruz and SFO and Humboldt, walking along the 101 North with their thumb out. This guy looks to have walked about 20 miles or so and apparently had to shit. What else can I say?

I know I saw a ton of public shitting when I was in San Francisco due to the absolutely batshit insane homeless situation there, but I don't recall seeing all that many hippie types the few times I was in the Los Angeles area.

Yeah but this is Santa Barbara, which might not be far from LA in terms of miles (only 80) but a universe away in terms of culture. Santa Barbara is like Santa Cruz and is infested with stinking dirty hippie people who hang out here before hitchhiking North. These types don't hang out in LA much. This is not a whacked out homeless kind of people like the homeless in LA or San Francisco.
