Books!

Since the LSAT will be DONE after Saturday and I don't start law school until Fall, I'll have more reading time! So I bought some books, which arrived today! I love books so much. I bought:

My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands by Chelsea Handler

Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife by Mary Roach

The Divine Comedy (The Inferno, The Purgatorio, and The Paradiso) by Dante Alighieri

Woohoo! I'm all a twitter. I've already read 50 pages of the One Night Stand book. It's quite funny. [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] or [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] do either of you want it when I'm done? I think both of you will enjoy it.

Spook, while sometimes droll, is not quite as juicy as Stiff, but still better than Bonk. Bonk is, however, a laugh a minute compared to The Divine Comedy unless you think preachy terza rima is a good time, in which case you need serious professional help. I haven't read more than snippets of Chelsea's book because I am convinced a couple of chapters would send me roaring off for a bottle of Grey Goose.

Well, I read a lot of history, and a lot of those history books center around concepts of hell, retribution, etc and are always quoting Dante. I feel as though I need to just sit down and read the whole triolgy. This translator is highly regarded and his notes are extensive and his language is approachable.

I need to read more classics. I feel....lacking.

And I am really enjoying the Handler book. But remember, I have lots of estrogen and like Sex and the City too. I can't help it. It makes me feel so....weak.

Actually-- The Inferno is genius on a scale that never fails to boggle. Dante should've stopped there and ended the whole thing by discovering Virgil was just leading him down the lowest circle to show that he resided on Satan's scrotum where he merrily buggered Beatrice with Richard Nixon's severed leg. Now that's an ending!

I enjoyed Spook at times.

Especially the chapter on how electromagnetic waves and infrasound can induce hallucinations, note the work done by Michael Persinger in this regard...very illuminating.

You know I want a fun book! If you want to send it to me when you're finished, I'll pass it on to LRFH when I'm finished... :)

I miss you! I need to be online more. I will be WHEN I GET BACK FROM THE BEACH. (Granny is stable, Mom found someone who will come in and sit with her this weekend, when the hospice people aren't at the assisted living, so as long as she remains that way, I AM GOING TO THE BEACH). Not that I'm excited or anything. Really.
