Western. Like Midland, Western is another accent that people consider neutral. So, you might not actually be from the Western half of the country, but you definitely sound like it.

And if you're not from the West, you are probably one of the following:
(a) A Pittsburgher - the quiz can't tell the difference;
(b) Someone from Canada (probably southern Ontario) who doesn't have a Canadian accent;
(c) Someone from northern New England who doesn't have a New England accent; or
(d) Someone from Texas or the Heartland who was born after 1980.
You are definitely not from New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Detroit, the Deep South, etc.</font>

Northern. Whether you have the world famous Inland North accent of the Great Lakes area, or the radio-friendly sound of upstate NY and western New England, your accent is what used to set the standard for American English pronunciation (not much anymore now that the Inland North sounds like it does).

Hmm, it told me I sound like someone from Fargo, or am a Canadian with a not utterly Canadian accent. I guess it's pretty accurate, given that I'm from the northern part of the Great White North, with a dad who hasn't lost his British accent after more than 60 years away.

(I guess I do sound like a Fargo-ite when I'm sitting on the back deck, cooking back bacon on the Coleman stove, after a few refreshing beverages.)

Originally Grande Prairie, Alberta (yep, it's a grand prairie, I'll betcha). The icon is me in downtown Whitehorse (giggle). Now, I'm an hour west of Toronto in Ontari-ari-ario.

Cool. I was born in TO (to parents from Nova Scotia), but moved at 6 mo. to Ottawa, and then age 8 off to Yellowknife. Then Prince George, Surrey, and now California. Long, strange trip....

I like Whitehorse; went there for a high school band trip, and then the 1980 Arctic Winter Games. Kinda like Yellowknife with mountains.

The quiz says I have a Western accent, which is a load because I have a horrible southern Indiana accent-- twangy and nasal and quasi-Southern. People from the south know I'm not southern, but people from the north sometimes ask me if I'm from Tennessee.
