Is slime mold like fresh wet foam? It was definitely foam, like soap suds. Not solid at all.

It can be, or it could be the spittle of some insect, encasing its eggs in the spittle, which will dry up and become a hard protective cover until the eggs hatch.

Or it could be the tree having an orgasm. Or someone hawked a big ol' foamy loogie.

It's a big foam - about the size of a bagel. That'd be one hell of an insect, hahahaha.
