Pigs!

You know how in one of my voice posts I talked about the dead pig on the side of the road. Last week, I drove by the field in the photograph below and there were about 40 pigs in the field, but I thought they were domesticated. Well, I was talking to a co-worker who also lives in Lompoc, and she said that those pigs (and the various dead ones on the side of the road) are wild!

I was driving home from work tonight when i spied a family of the pigs in the field. So I pulled over, and unfortunately, as soon as I stepped out of the car, they moved away from the road (they were quite close) and started walking away. So, they are really small in this picture, but they are wild pigs!

Um … that's kinda dangerous. Especially if they're the furry, tusky sort of wild pigs and/or there are piglets about.

You know why the boar hunters of yore had the cross-piece on their spears, don't you?

It was to keep several hundred pounds of angry pork from running up the rest of the shaft and killing whoever was still gripping it once they'd been stuck. That's the sort of ornery cussedness you just do not mess with.
