First Class!

I just got home from my first paralegal class - Fundamentals of Paralegal Studies. It was fascinating. The teacher has been a paralegal for 20 years and has worked in all sorts of different branches of law: family law, criminal law, litigation, contracts and now works in probate/estate/elder abuse law. She talked about so many interesting facets of the job, and it all sounds like I'm really going in the right direction.

And there was this weird thing - this guy who looks like a spitting image of Chris Klein came and sat next to me and I swear to glub, he was flirting with me! It was quite bizarre. I mean - he started right off the bat...so he must be a serious chubby chaser, because he was going on looks alone. I could be imagining it, but I don't think so. But I am nuts, so I could be imagining it. Who knows. It was just strange. Caught me quite off guard.

Anyway, all in all, it's going to be so much fun. I'm really looking forward to the next 18 months. Now I'm off to study - I actually have to keep a log all quarter of every single thing I do in regards to my three classes, because I have to keep track of my billable hours; it's an assignment I have to turn in on the day of the final exam. Whack!

My mama loved being a paralegal. She did it for about 30 years, and enjoyed it immensely. She even wrote an appeal for the GA Supreme Court, and was she ever proud of it -- the appeal worked, and her boss told her it was because she wrote the appeal so perfectly.

Sounds like you're going to enjoy this career -- keep us all posted on your progress!!

How cool! I would love to write a brief for a high court someday. I would be really proud as well. Good for your Mom.

Who's Chris Klein? (I know, I'm showing my ignorance of pop culture, but so what...)

Hope the guy is for real and not a freak, and that it wasn't your crazy telling you stories...

Yeah - it was really strange. He didn't talk to anyone else in the class like he talked to me. Like he leaned in once and said "What was the teacher's name again? But I'll never forget your name." It was odd. We'll see how he is next weekend.

Hey, why not log your activities into LJ, and that way you can let us all see what you're doing and when you're doing it. We'll also be able to hound you if you don't post anything when you should.

Won't that be fun... heh.

How boring is that? I'm not going to make you all insane with having things like :

9/22/07 - Attended Fundamentals Class - 2.5 Billable hours
9/22/07 - Read Fundamentals Textbook - 1.3 Billable Hours

and so on.

I was a paralegal for a year and the only thing I really hated (aside from the fact that the attorney I worked for was a serious cunt) was billing out my hours. I guess my favorite part about it though, was that paralegal hours were billed to the client at a rate of $75/hr. Since I was only making $11/hr and there was really only an hour a day that wasn't billed to SOMEONE, I started feeling SLIGHLTY underappreciated.
